  1. In addition to Eric's method, I've become a great fan of the CAD to Walls feature for organic (curved) walls.  The beauty is by letting CA determine the best walls connections in an organic structure you don't end up with unmanageable wall breaks.  I stink at organic pool shapes, but by using CAD to Walls I've knocked out some pretty groovy designs.

  2. I have good success using GPS data points from the survey or from Geoplaner (https://www.geoplaner.com/) if I'm looking for a headstart on lot placement without the need for absolute accuracy.

That said, data points ALWAYS need some cleanup.

What I would like is some automation in determining how much material is added/removed from the baseline lot with the use of terrain tools.  Computers are s'posed to be really good at math, right?

  3. Do research or ask your attorney about work-for-hire contracts.  There are cases that a client will want all work product (plans, sketches, notes, etc.) as part of the contract.  My jumpoff point for negotiation is triple whatever usual is for the project type.

  4. The short answer is no.  Revit and CA do not use the same mechanisms to define 3D so any 3D you would bring from Revit would come into CA as "dumb" symbols.  The method is to have the architect export to 2D dwg or dxf then import and trace to recreate in Chief.
