Create a separate default to measure doors to outside and change to that default and dimension.  But unless you want to delete all the other automatic dimensions it would be best to just use your automatic dimension tool and run just that wall moving the line to the proper offset you want instead of using the automatic dimension tool.

In my area at least, standard exterior doors and windows are measured to the center of the opening with the exception of the garage doors which are measured to the sides of the door.  This is what I was hoping to automate, but I have a feeling something has to be set at the symbol level telling the software to dimension to the side.  Foundations would dimension to the rough opening of the garage door.  I have to do this manually now,  not a big deal, but would be nice if it was automated.

Are you using the latest update (23.4)?

The reason that this is important is that there was a bug related to selecting certain wall types that were saved in the library that was originally in 23.0 that should have been fixed in 23.1.

If you are still using 23.0, then you should really get the latest update.

If you are getting this problem in 23.4, then it is possible that our fix was not complete.  You need to report this to our tech support team so that we can look into this more.

I will try to find the library symbol to send you.

Are you using the latest update (23.4)?  How did you get the symbol into the program?  Did you start having this problem immediately or did it only start happening some time later?

You could try temporarily turning off the preview and selection windows to see if you can then delete the library object.

Before you do that though, you should also see if you can export the symbol so that you can report this problem to our tech support team.  This way we might be able to prevent this kind of problem from affecting others in the future.

it seems to be just a wall type I saved in the library.  it is an 8" rail that I made with the correct size beam and posts.  Weird I can't use it in 13x.  I went trhough some other symbols and they opened fine, so I suspect it is just something that corrupted that symbol.  I will redo it  Hopefully the others all come across fine. Thanks for the insight!

If you just want your X12 toolbars in X13 you can reset the migration and then when prompted migrate your toolbars over.  To reset the migration just go to Edit>Preferences and go to the Reset Options panel, on this panel there will be a button Reset Migration.  Click it, restart Chief and it will prompt you for the migration, select only the toolbars and that should get you your X12 toolbars into X13.

Ed, Thanks so much.  Will the rest of the migration stay the same (libraries, layout template default, etc)?

  5. For example I have drawn a Jack and Jlll bathroom that I would like to save to the library for easy future use.  Anyway I can save it along with the various walls involved to the library under the name Jack and Jill where I could quickly find it to use in the future?  I tried putting it on a new plan by itself, but the option to make it into a block so I could then add it to the library didn't appear.

Diane, don't know if you're aware of this, but you can also draw a polyline> shape it around the area you want to move> with the polyline selected, you can hit edit area, then tranform/replicate it the distance you want it to move. All of the area within the polyline will move that distance. Sometimes it's very helpful doing it this way.

    I

    did not know this!  Thanks!

  7. Too funny,  I found my own answer.  Use the transform replicate dialog that appears when you select something and then enter the x or y distance you want to move it.  Duh!  I use this dialog several times a day to move things around on elevations.  Don't know why I didn't think of it here.

  8. Is there a way to stretch a plan using edit area where you could enter a distance you want the selected are to move?  I have been using the arrow keys on my keyboard to stretch it and it will move it an inch at a time. I need to move 13' in different areas of the house so I prefer not to do it an inch at a time. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Logi G602 11 button mouse and a 3d connexxion mouse.
Sometimes I use my iPad with pencil as an extended screen.

Oh these seem interesting and different.  Going to have to find some videos of their usage.  I have a Windows Laptop.  i assume you are working with Mac with the IPad, right?  I don't think it would work with my laptop?

    Thanks!

I've got an inexpensive cordless mouse with 2 buttons on the left side and I'm still trying to figure out what they're for! I've got the 2 on top pretty much nailed!

This sounds pretty much the way I am set up only I only have the left and right click and the wheel.

Razer makes mice with lots of side buttons. Mine has 12, plus two top buttons in addition to the normal left and right, and the scroll wheel tilts. Every button has a hot key assigned.

I could see this being handy if you could assign wall types to different keys, are you able to do that?  What sorts of things do you assign to your 12 keys?

  12. I am so sorry to put this here,  I am a little desperate and tried the industry resources area and didn't get a response.  Thought I would try to see if any of you have had the same problem and the solutions you found.  Thinking perhaps  Georgia or Alabama truss companies could help, but I am swamped and have limited time to track down ones that can take on more work.

Our local truss companies are overwhelmed and turning away work. We must have truss sheets that are windloaded and designed for Florida for the permitting process.  Are there any truss companies that have availability and ability to do Florida trusses?  It's crazy these days.  What used to take me a week to get is now taking 6 weeks just to get a quote,. Any then another four weeks to get the truss sheets. Any help trying to find a solution would be wonderful!
