  1. I sent them in yet DXF file.  I just want to know if a 2020 user can import a DXF file. I am not sure my clients are savvy enough to understand it.

I can’t believe it’s not possible to import a DXF file in 2020. I did look on the Internet and it wasn’t very clear on whether you could import a DXF file in 2020.

just trying to get clarification from somebody that knows.

I have an elevation region that is -9' and an elevation region that is -11' and a driveway between the two with the one side a retaining wall and the other side a foundation wall. For some reason chief is adding a -8 region in between and a lot of little swirls. Please see attached photo. I highlighted the elevation regions in Blue and I think I snapped everything in the region against the walls

For the fun of it, drag your terrain break through the wall into that void space since and see what you get

  3. To date I have always included multiple structures in one plan file.....  Houses,  ADU's,  detached garages......

If it was an apartment project I may consider separate plan files.......

I never convert garages or ADU's to symbols......  for whatever reason,  my projects are ever changing.

I had a project with a detached garage,  an ADU and a House, and a Swimming Pool  all oriented at different angles....  I put them all in same plan file......  this made it easier to see the relationship between all structures around pool.

I suppose you could use ref sets but editing between plans seems to be more difficult.

    Different strokes for different folks

  4. that worked,  but if you then break in half because the footing at garage is 12" wide and the other 15" wide,  the problem comes back.

Being out here on the west coast with the rest of the nuts,  we do not do the brick ledge so I had not noticed the issue.

@solver brought it to my attention that having the individual panels would be useful for stacking taller doors in the Door Spec dialog, or for assembling taller doors as symbols.

I updated the catalog with folders containing the individual panels, and renamed the symbols and folders to make more sense (to me at least :P )

I have a similar problem. When I place a doorway, how do I make the the top of the door follow the stringer? My doorway, and window, are square across the top.

    thanks in advance

My mistake.....  do not use a doorway....  use a pass thru window....  I believe I have requested the ability to shape a door.....

Wondering if anybody is able to tell me how to do this... I am trying to create a room under the stairs, and I would like to have an angled wall under the stairs to close it in. I want the bottom of the wall to follow along the stairs, but can't seem to get it? I created a wall along here, but have no options that I can see to make it follow the stairs. I can make it follow the stairs on the top side, like a railing, but cannot figure out how to do it below.

    Any ideas??

I am using Home designer pro 2019 (Build: 20.3.0.54x64)

Thanks to anyone with some ideas on this!

  8. I do not think they sent the wrong file over.

This is the second time this has happened to me.......  on X15.......  when I try to import DWG info from a current version of an ACAD file,  I do not get info......  the civil engineers has to export their info into a much earlier version of ACAD....  in this case it was a 2010 ACAD file,  and then I can import info.

    You have verified my statement.

BTW,  when you imported the contour lines did you import them as ELEVATION LINES and when you did,  did they have the elevation of the line ("smart topo lines")

  9. So they sent me another file and they backed off to 2010 CAD.......  this time if I converted the topo lines to elevation lines they did not come in....  if I did not convert they did come in.

oh the many mysteries of CA.

Mick,  if you haver a moment check it out and see if you get same results....

  10. Hi Guys,

Importing DWG ACAD files into CA....  easy peasy back in the day....  but not now....  anybody else?

I have attached a file.  Would someone please see if possible to import into CA on a PC and then would someone import on a MAC?

I ran into this issue about a month ago.....  it was the latest ACAD version,  I could not import,  but when they backed it off to ACAD 2011 I could import.

Is this a MAC thing?  thanks
