  1. For the sake of information which is what I think the OP is fishing for here. You can decide on a limit based on the purpose for the image. If you plan on using it for a small pamphlet or web page, then the most you may want is 500 passes as you can't really see any visual difference beyond this point when looking at the image on your monitor or small piece of paper. If you intend to print on a larger sheet however, that is when more passes counts. but still, more than a 1,000 and your really just recalulating an image that is as good as it's going to get. My preference is to set pretty much any image I create to 500 passes because here in tech I only ever need to put it in a tech tip article on the website. I'm not printing so it would be a waste of time to go much longer. When I do let an image go all weekend it's usually for larger images that I want to have the flexibility to edit into a final image later.
  2. I typically start mine on Friday evening before heading home and come back to stop it Monday morning. That is how this ray tracer works. If set to unlimited time/passes, it will just keep recalculating the pixels and improving them. The resulting image is usually around the same size whether it's a 1 pass rendering or 1,000 pass rendering. The size of the file is mostly based off of the resolution of the image. Don't lose that image!
  3. To use any external rendering/ray tracing program, you would need to export your drawing as a 3D Symbol/Model. *.3DS files work well. Then import the file to the rendering program and setup lights, material definitions, etc. Then you are ready for rendering. As Dennis pointed out this involves a learning curve no matter what program you decide to go with and basically re-creating the scene and adjusting the lighting etc.
  4. I checked on this and it can populate the page label, but not the number. To print the page title: Text Below Line needs to be set to “Automatic” in the camera callout Send the camera view to your layout. The layout page needs to have a page label specified in the Layout Page Information. This page label is what will display in the second line of the camera callout.
  5. Then this doesn't look like a feature of the software. The %page% macro reads the current layout page but doesn't work unless it is physically on the layout. This would make a great feature request though!
  6. This may not work because the camera is on the plan not the layout... but if you go to your callout defaults and set the default text below line to: %page% http://oi62.tinypic.com/2nljfd.jpg Does it update to your layout correctly?
  7. That was just an example of the modling profile I had made. You can adjust the height and spacing in the molding specification to make it span the entire height of the wall if you need. My example was mainly showing that it doesn't handle the window very well. The pattern breaks up.

  9. Well, unfortunately there is no real easy way to get it to wrap windows and doors... But, you can do this with a molding line or the standard room molding polyline and a custom board and batten modling profile. Here is one I whipped up based on your 1x8 scenario. http://jmp.sh/9Tr6kWN
  10. I've always seen this topic come up. David's texture seems good but some of the discussion here leads me to believe that most users are looking for more than a 2-Dimensional image. Am I correct in assuming this? If so what would be ideal?
  11. IE stores your login session as a cookie file on your computer. This cookie may be getting deleted when you close IE. You may have IE set to automatically delete your browser history on close.
  12. In my example I simply drew a truss into an existing roof. So the truss was generated by the roof as Scott had hinted. This means modifying the truss directly affects how the roof interacts. In my example the roof had raised to fit the new purliin/battens without me needing to do any additional leg work.
  13. You can go into the truss detail view and cut these out of the truss using the break line tool. I created this truss by using the break line tool to cut out a small block then used align/distribute along line to copy and distribute it down the truss.

  16. It looks like the ones that I saw on their site are in 3D DWG format. You can import these into Chief but this format doesn't support textures so they will be colorless to start out.
  17. Also, moving your added light sources behind the camera as previously suggested in this thread should give you the same lighting without the glare.
  18. New Tip: If you are having trouble finding a particular view you can right-click the Chief Architect dock icon and choose Show All Windows.
  19. You can setup your own Ray Trace profile and save it as your default ray trace profile and include it in your default template for new plans.
  20. You might try exporting it and turning off the truncate option so the texture names aren't truncated? What format was your previous model uploaded in?
  21. Keep in mind what type of add-ons you have enabled as well. Some privacy type add-ons can prevent the spell checking script from recognizing that you're in a web form or editor.
  22. I can upload the model without the textures but trying to include the textures locks it up. I noticed too that there were some referenced textures that are missing.
  23. As Dan_Park and Alaskan_Son have mentioned the ray tracer defaults to 'No Limit' so be sure to click the Stop Ray Trace option at some point.
  24. You can increase the drop off rate for those point lights to soften them up. Does that improve the view at all?
  25. This is most likely a problem on Sketchfab's end but if you attach a copy of the model with the textures and I can try uploading to my Sketchfab.
