  1. This Video Card is not capable of PBR-RTRT ( real time raytracing) as it is GTX Based ( cards before the 2000 and up series' ) so in X14 on the old Computer you are see the X12 Version of PBR I believe which uses a different 3D lighting Engine on the new computer with the 4070 you will be using the new 3D Lighting engine ( called Astral ) and it works very differently and won't look as nice until you get X15 which has the Denoiser Setting, ( the X15 PBR game changer for me ) which eliminates the graininess, so people only use 50 samples , I use 200 though, also make sure to Cap Live Samples or the Card will run continuously "sampling forever" The Render Tab in Preferences may show this on the old and new computers under Videocard Status>Hardware Raytracing > Yes ( New Comp) or No (old Comp.)
  2. Ok, good I don't think it is a Permissions Issue then if you can save a file Manually, I would followup with Tech. Support tomorrow for more insight on this - please let us know the outcome. My Settings in Preferences look to be the same as yours and as you can see I have multiple Archives from from Friday , I am not sure but I think Joe's post must actually refer to Auto Saves and not Auto Archives ( documentation boo-boo? ) looking in My Archive Folder.
  3. I would ask Tech. Support , but it might be a Permissions Issue with Windows if you are User of the Laptop but not the Owner of it ( ie it's a Work Laptop) as your Name is not in the Folder List above ...it just says Owner instead, so Windows may not be letting you (Chief) to write Files to the Documents Folder or Chief Data Folder etc. Can you Manually save a Chief or other Files into the Archive folder? no error messages? M.
  4. This won't happen if you let Chief AutoBuild the Roof 1st, it is best Practice to set the Wall Roof Directive (WRD) in each wall that will not be a Hip Roof ( Default for all Walls) before Autobuilding, which I highly recommend 1st as it gets the Basics perfect, with Baselines, direction etc correct, and depending on the house will get you 65-90% of the way there, then you can turn OFF Autobuild and finish it up Manually where needed. As for your Errant Roof Plane , if you select it with a single click you will see a triangle near it's center , which is the rotate handle , left click and hold on it and then Rotate the Roof Plane 180°........However I would recommend deleting it and redrawing it to ensure the Baseline and overhangs are drawn correctly in the right position. M. Remember that the KnowledgeBase (KB) has many good Short Tutorials ( with downloadable PDFs) and there are also Free Videos etc to help with all the basics. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00441/creating-hip-and-gable-roofs-manually.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/5447/roof-basics.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/6110/roof-options-using-the-manual-and-automatic-roof-tools-grandview-build.html Mick.
  5. Are you sure the roof plane is drawn in the correct direction ? turn on Roof plane labels in Plan view and ensure the arrow points down the roof.....

    Scaling

Everything is Drawn in Plan View in Chief at 1:1 (or full real-world size) , when you Send Plan Views to Layout is when you Scale it eg 1/4 = 1' or 1/8" =20' etc. * If you aren't Using Chief or HD Pro , you won't have the send to Layout Option. Chief has a few Videos on it like this one.... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/48/creating-layouts-and-construction-documents.html M.
  7. These days it not really needed to alter those settings but make sure GPU Scheduling is on and Chief is in the List of Desktop Apps * At a guess it is likely the CPU, not the GPU is overheating and shutting down to protect itself (Thermal overload/shutdown). I have the 3080 and 3080Ti which pulls a lot more power than the 3080 and neither have this Issue , it may also be a Power Supply Issue (wattage?) M.
  8. Double Click the title Bar of either View and it will go back to full size minimizing the Other window back to a Tab in the process. M.
  9. This is something I'd be happy to help with...... I have sent a Personal Message with more Info, goto the envelope at top right.....
  10. Perhaps try Deleting the Offending Catalogs and reloading them as there is (was?) a known Issue with the new Library System , not recognizing some older Catalogs properly, I had to do this back in May to sort out my Library. I believe my Issue was likely caused by me renaming the Libraries as I downloaded them originally with a more descriptive name than Chief gives them, so I no longer do that. this is the thread back then....
  11. You You never want Elevation Data crossing each other, to help with that I make the line style Orange and fill Regions with orange at 95% transparency ( if the over lap it will look like 90% trans. etc) also pull the Regions etc PAST the edge of the Terrain Perimeter , don't let them "snap" to it, so YOU control the very edge not Cheif which can cause those spikes again. Regions etc outside the TP has NO effect on it either. With the wall Issue there, pull your Regions just inside the Wall Line and put a Terrain Break down the middle of the Wall and set the elevation Change distance to 0" ( default is 120") , try it elsewhere without the wall and see the sharp abrupt change in Elevation..... Personally I stay away from point's if possible , but Elev. Lines are a necessary "evil" sometimes but I use Regions a lot for quick Topos... M.
  12. The KnowledgeBase (KB) has many short Tutorials , you can even download the PDF on the Right with the green button that says "Tools" https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03012/creating-a-storage-loft-in-a-larger-room.html Might want to do your Forum Signature too so everyone knows you use X15 and don't need to mention it every time, there is a how too here: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/18908-signature-here-at-chief-talk/?tab=comments#comment-155662 Mick.
  13. That's right, I did it early last year so was already paid up to Aug. 2025, so I was only allowed to get another 4 months now. Mick
  14. Not too bad If you set the Sun to follow Camera , it will always shine on what you are looking at, while the Shadows may not be correct for your Location or the time of day, I personally think that is less important than the Client getting some well lit Views. * I always Note it is a 3D Artist's Visualization and may not reflect the real world (especially the Colors as Monitors don't convey them well ). M.
  15. I didn't link a Video that must of been @DBCooper Mick.
  16. CA is fairly capable of Exterior PBR these Days but it is definitely not a 1 Click and done thing , you will need to play with the Sun strength ( way too high by Default - try 5000-10,000 but may need lower eg 500-2000 so the backdrop isn't washed out ) and Sun Angle or use "sun follows Camera" and also daylight intensity Try 700-1000) and Brightness too sometimes. Also make sure to Cap your Live Samples , I use 200, and also check the Box for the Denoiser if you haven't already. Also try Refraction on or Off to see if it helps with Reflections. here are a couple of mine without any Landscaping ( I don't get paid for that ) M.
  17. Best to Quote someone , so they know they have been "Tagged" or use the @ symbol before their Username to Tag them eg @decorators3 that way the forum will let them know you have Replied.... A number of people with older computers have found their Cards don't work even with Shader 6 as they don't have the "Extended formats TypedUAVLoad" which CA has now added a Note about on the Link above which is why I mentioned it, but now with your Sig. filled in I see you have a 3070 which should be just fine Note: Some graphics cards, such as the NVIDIA 700 series, may support shader model 6, but may be lacking a critical feature called "Extended formats TypedUAVLoad". If a graphics card does not support this feature, the word "No" will be mentioned beside this feature in the image above, and the card will not function with newer versions of Chief Architect software. M.
  18. The next suggestion I had was actually a Custom Light Set but you have already done that and increased the Max lights from the default 20 and so the Next thing to do is post the Plan if possible so People can have a "play" ( Forum is limited to 14mb ) or send it to Tech. Support for a Look while yo work on other Things/Projects , they are pretty responsive I have found. M.
  19. Update your Forum Signature and add your Hardware Details too in particular the Video Card Info , what do you see in Preferences , under the Render Tab for Videocard Status?, does it say Yes next to Hardware Raytracing? If your Computer does not have Nvidia RTX , then Chief Defaults to using the X12 Light Engine instead I believe ...this is mine.... You must also have at least Shader Model 6.0 as well (mine is 6.5 above) more info on that here : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03146/identifying-the-shader-model-of-your-graphics-card-in-windows.html M.
  20. And what is your MAX Lights Set to for the Default Lighting Set ? Multiply the number of lights per foot ( see Light Data specs) x 21' + your Downlights etc Ropelights quickly eat up the Default Max Settings.... * In a Plan I had PBR Performance Issues with recently Chief Tech. Support found the Lighting Engine was still doing the Lighting in Rooms other that where the camera was (Kitchen) even though they unchecked, and one of the Killers was the Rope lighting and a lit Mirror in the Powder Rm. , the solution was to put those Lights on a custom Layer and turn the Layer off. M.
  21. Some objects in Chief, primarily symbols from the Library can have there "reference Height" ...set to terrain though it is sometimes better to Reference Absolute (0") so they don't move with the Terrain if that is not intended eg Columns, or Furniture you want to sit on a slab, the Buildings will need to be Set using the Absolute Height Setting in the Structure Tab of the "Room" ( Absolute Height is always 0" = top of slab or top of Subfloor plywood ) M.
  22. I'd still report it, as if we don't they don't know there is an Issue and you may not be the only one. If it is some sort of Bug, then hopefully it will get fixed for X16. They quickly looked into my Issue in May, but in my case the Fix was on My End. M.
  23. You could add a 2TB or 4TB Drive for extra Storage......... but if you haven't already Check the Archive Folder under each Version you may find yo have dozens of GBs of Archived Files you know longer need, similarly for old Clients you may have many Plan File Revisions for each Client ....... Open the latest Layout/Plan File for each Client and do a Full Backup Zipfile, from Layout if there is one ( which will include the Plan) and then save just the ZipFile in the Client's Folder in case you should ever need it. ( Zipping compressing the Files and saves all materials in the Plan as well.) This may help if you're not familiar with the process, you just won't be sending them to another User . https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00987/using-the-backup-entire-plan-layout-tool-to-send-files-to-another-user.html M.
  24. While making a Custom Door Last week I also noticed the Issue with the Copy > Reflect Tool turning Polyline Solids into (un-editable) "Solids" , this is a big Issue as for symmetrical Objects I always used CAD Lines to "Reflect About" to save time and effort. I am not sure if the "prediction" Chief now shows on these type of Operations ( and Roof Planes etc) is part of the Point to Point Issue as I also see that in X15 and like in Eric's Video find I have to do a 2nd Pt. to Pt. to get it exactly into position. However In X15 it seems things can be "detected" even if their layer is Turned OFF eg Dimensions do it all the Time, so whether in the Video it is still "snapping to the Grid(s) even with them disabled I am not sure , but these "glitches are annoying and ( and time wasting = $) so seems like a Bug to me. M.
  25. @ColePOC Chief only builds the 1st floor Framing once the 1st Floor forms a Room ie all Exterior walls are Drawn and that framing only shows on the Foundation Level (0) ie everything below 0" (Top of Subfloor) shows on the Level below. This may help you, one of my Tipsheets ...... MHD CA Drawing Order Cheat Sheet.pdf *Forum Tip ...you can Tag someone using the @ and then their Forum Username with no space eg @ForumUsername it should go green if done right when you hit enter. Mick
