Out of the box, objects are assigned to System Default Layers which are hardcoded into the software and are not user-assignable and cannot be deleted, although their name can be changed. "Text, Notes" is the System Default Layer for Notes. Checking the Default Layer box sends the object to the System Default Layer, NOT your "default" layer. You don't want to check the box unless you want the Note to go to the System Default Layer.

Did you perhaps change the name of the out-of-box "Text, Notes" layer to "Text, Notes, Foundation"?

Just set up your default Plot Plan Note (under Default Settings > Text, Callouts and Markers > Note > Saved Note Defaults) to use the Plot Plan Notes layer, and they will be created on that layer. Ignore that checkbox- you should see the correct layer in that field, with the checkbox off. And change "Text, Notes, Foundation" back to just "Text, Notes," and create a new layer for Foundation Notes.

Yes!! Thank you Chrisb222..I did at some point change the System Default Layer "Text, Notes" to "Text, Notes, Foundation" instead of copying the System layer and renaming the copy.

Wow, excellent catch and thank you for understanding the question so clearly.

    Best Regards Chris.

  2. Tea Time,

Thank you for responding. The pic I uploaded is the Active plan view edit window /"Notes" edit / Line Style/Layer. The Plot Plan Notes Default layer (with default box checked) is set to "Text, Notes, Foundation"...where is it getting this default, when the default box is checked?  I hope that is a clearer explanation.

    Best regards,

  3. Assistance please.

How can I set imported drawings from the PLAN FILE to have NO BOX BORDER and NO LABEL when sent to Layout?? I have to turn these off with every import to layout. Settings in layout doesnt help since the Template Sheet border in LAYOUT, 0 sheet, uses LAYOUT BOX BORDERS layer for default border line work for that sheet.

Thanks for any help or insight for best practices. PIC attached of a recently imported Elevation (top Left) that illustrates the box border and Label

  4. Gene:

Yes- a lot of text styles due to cleaning out CHIEF defaults and defining my own. Work in progress...Thanks for the advice.

    Regarding your suggestion:

    1. Text size should match the scale of the drawing output to Layout... Correct? (E.G. 1/4" text style for 1/4" drawing scale). Been doing this for a while with CAD and that's the formula

2  I have corrected the scale of the layout box to match the scale of the Schedule text style- No change

    3. I have checked that my schedule properties: Line Style= Correct layer; Text Style=Use layer for properties; Labels= Use Callout for label + Callout size= Calculate from text

with these properties verified, even in the CAD detail Schedule the Label Numbers are larger than the text...This is where the snafu is happening, I believe

OR What are the Label Callouts doing to the Text Style to enlarge the text to fill the Callout shape when it is the same as the text body of the note as defined by the the layer text style

My Goal: to have Note text at 3/32" and Label Callouts at 1/8" printed across all scales. I believe I understand how to do this in text style setup.

    .

I appreciate your time and response. Peace

  5. At the request of DBCooper...attached is the plan file and layout file with the Note Schedule issues. CA X13 Pro

Per Alchemyjim: Should the Note Label also show up as the same text style as the be controlled "Use layer as text Style" option? I do understand based on your recommendation that it may be a better approach to assign the Note label with it's own style since they typically show in plan as a bold font.

Thank you good folks for the continued feedback.

  6. My Note Label symbols are scaling larger than the layer font for the note text. This causes schedules to come in much larger when dropped into Layout. Schedules are created in a CAD DETAIL page in the PLAN file then dropped onto a layout page at the same scale as the drawing view the notes are linked. Please help with this anomaly. I have included a PDF with Screen shots of a sample layout page, Schedule and Layer settings.

Thank you for anyoone who may be able to shed some light on this issue.

  7. This has me completely perplexed. I have created several Note Schedules for my project and when I go to Layout, they are scaling at different scales (THIRD PIC) AND as in the FIRST pic below, Notes show up in the CAD DETAIL Schedule at different scales. The Bath Elevation is set at 1/2" Scale and the Note Layer text style is set at a 1/2" Text Style..

Regarding the Layout Sheet (3rd Pic).. The bath notes are referenced on 1/2" Scale plans and Interior Elevations, The Plan notes are referenced onto 14" Scaled plans.

    Questions to Start:

    1. How are schedules supposed to be assigned to a text style scale in the CAD DETAIL Space versus, The Note layer Text Style in the Plan or Elevation and Finally the imported Scale of the Schedule into Layout??

    2. What happens if the same Notes are used across different scaled plans and Views? Such as a 1/4" Plan and a 1/2" Interior Wall elevation view?

Thank you kind folks for any light you can shed on this issue.

  8. Renerabbitt,

Could you elaborate on your comment about editing "Active Views selected defaults" ? I believe you are referring to my creation of TWO separate default sets for 1/2" scale for a plan AND a 3D view. The reason I did this was more about Layer Control with Electrical Fixtures turned ON or OFF, such as Wall mounted lights that clutter up a plan view when there are outlets below.

Thanks for any additional advice or clarification.

  9. To All... I figured it out. In the Project Browser under the list of Schedules, there was a second schedule created that used the SAME Note assignment. In my Case it was a Custom Note Style called "Bath Notes". Once I deleted this extra schedule from the list, the Notes updated with a SINGLE number.

    22-0201-SOLVED-BAth Notes show duplicate numbers-schedule.jpg

  10. This is a recent issue in X13 premier. I have found a need to create a separate default set to handle layer settings for 3D Elevation view versus a plan view. I needed to show Electrical in the 3D view. When I created the separate default set, For the SAME schedule of Bath Notes, I got this result. The Default sets are used respectively for a plan view at 1/2" scale AND a 3D view at 1/2" scale with only a change in displaying electrical. Does anyone know about this anomaly and why the Notes are getting double numbers? Again, there is only ONE schedule referencing the placed custom Notes.

    Thank you for the assistance.

  11. I have an Issue with Chief Arch X13 not allowing multiple character hotkeys due to conflicts with the first two For Example: Line=L  and Align Left=L,A will not be allowed unless Align Left replaces Line command. I had to assign "A,L" as hot key to get around. This happens across the board with any hotkeys I wish to assign 3-4 characters AND there is a conflict with a single or double character hotkey.

    Thank you for any assistance.

It appears perhaps that My Documents is actually in Dropbox, not on on your Physical HDD ( NVME) similar to how iCloud works on a Mac.

I think when you installed Dropbox you agreed to the Dropbox install defaults which Includes Folders like My Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos etc,

which is not ideal and can cause Issues with Chief trying to update Files etc that DB is syncing.

I have the same issue with CA x13 using a file path for MY DOCUMENTS FOLDER linked to a Dropbox Backup folder. I have sinced turned this setting off in Dropbox...How do I change the file path to a separate folder in CA ?
