I can confirm that this is indeed a zoning bylaw. The definition of the terminology can usually be found in the Land Use Bylaw and I can also confirm that there are slight variations from one jurisdiction to another. If the OP can tell me where this project is located, I can help them find the exact information they need.

    East Aurora, NY

  2. I am confused by this requirement by a client. Can anyone help pls. It's about a simple hip roof garage.

"Our building code requires the mean of the top and gutters be 15 feet max"

"the mean of the roof top and the top of plate needs to be 15 feet - not 15 feet max height".

Is the 15 ft mid-way between max height and wall plate??

  3. I'm trying to make a house with rafters as in the pic. The rafters seem not sitting on the top plates but in a pocket in the wall. Anyone has information about how to make this in Chief?

    Many Thanks

As Gene is suggesting it may well be possible to auto generate that condition but I have not tried.  When manually editing trusses you can't use a "General Framing Member" as a structural component of the truss.  You need to copy and modify an existing "Roof Truss Member" from the same truss envelope. General framing members can be used to trim with but will not show in your framing view even if the layer is turned on.

    Thanks, i'll try that

When you make a copy (or "duplicate") of a saved plan view, the program will not automatically make copies of the layer set or any of the other defaults that your saved plan view is using.

So when you copied the Electrical Plan View and called it Plumbing Plan View it was still using the Electrical Layer Set.  If you then went and turned layers on/off and modified the settings, you were changing the way both views looked.  It was also still using the Electrical Dimension Defaults so if you made changes to them you would also affect how the dimensions work in both views.  The same with any of the other defaults.

So if you actually want to create a new saved plan view that is not sharing any layer settings or other defaults, you would also need to make copies of all of them.  One way to do this is to right-click on the new Plumbing Plan View you created and then use the Edit View tool.  If you go to the Selected Defaults panel, you will see that everything in your plumbing view is still using the electrical stuff.

You will find lots more information in this video series:

Things such as label, dimension etc. are still duplicated to the new saved plan view, even if you change the layer set settings etc. You cannot place a label and a new dimension just on the duplicated saved view, without it being replicated to the original saved plan view. There should be a setting to make this possible.
