  1. Nice! I actually didn't have that one downloaded. Just got it from the 3D library.
  2. Anyone know if these type are hidden in the catalog anywhere? I have just about all of the lighting downloaded from the 3D library.
  3. I am stuck in my ways but will definetely look into this. I do love the auto detail command for all my elevations and cross sections.
  4. I hear ya man. I guess I am spoiled with Autocad for the 2d details. Been using it since 1996 and are super quick with it. Every time I try and use chief for my Cad details it just slows me down a bit. I have two files in AutoCad I use for all my plans. One file is miscellaneous footing details and the other is strapping/structural details. I do not draw those details every time I create a new plan and just grab what I need. If I am doing this the hard way please let me know because I really would like to steer away from AutoCad all together.
  5. Apparently my monthly subscription to AutoCad Lite has been slowly increasing over the past year and nothing is new to justify that. When you call those bozo's they stutter and cannot give you a reason for the increase. So, when you export files from CA to .dwg are they compatible with other drafting softwares? Even the free ones? I keep AutoCad in my back pocket for two reasons, it is quicker for me on my CAD details and other engineers use it for when I forward them files. I know .dwg is .dwg but wanted to see what you guys do?
  6. Makes you wonder if they zip lines half way through the OSB/plywood to get that bend like they do in drywall.
  7. This is a good idea. I have seen how do they do the flared eaves but not the whole roof plane.
  8. haha agreed.......I will try a truss and see how CA generates it.
  9. Below is my latest CA project and an example of a finished home with similar curved gable roof type. Does anyone have any references as to how builder's actually frame this so I can detail it? Is this where the curved lumber everyone picks through and puts to the side at lumber yards come into play? lol
  10. Cool, it is sometimes easier to just draw the beams manually and add the columns from the library as well. But I am going to try your method too.
  11. yep.....is that running dims?
  12. When using a railing wall and utilizing it's properties to produce the posts and beams, why won't CA dimension to each post? If manually dimensioning them it doesn't snap to anything for proper dims. Just another thing I got used to doing but obviously I need to improve this.
  13. not to hi-jack this thread but are you saying it can create something like ths?
  14. I agree, but sometimes they want something totally different looking than what CA generates.
  15. I have noticed lag like you are talking about if I create custom exposed truss polyline solids.
  16. Instead of having one long legend, is there a way to make multiple rows? In Autocad it uses an excel type of legend than has grips that allow you manipulate this. I am asking because obviously this won't fit on a border. I have been copying the views multiple times in the layout file and using the pdf grips there. Not a big deal, just seeing if I am missing out on easier ways.
  17. oooooooh, can it be, after a lot of grief and cussing, that after this latest update from CA and NVIDIA I went a whole day without any crashes from spinning the home in 3D or producing PBRT's? We shall see......... I will work it hard tomorrow and try and make it crash to see if this was the fix sent down from heaven.
  18. It's crashing a lot nowdays and the PC is only 3 months old. I was hoping this upgrade would help.
  19. Downloaded the CA update but is this the latest and greatest driver I need per my sig? NVIDIA site can be confusing and I don't want to download something for unnecessary.
  20. This is good to hear, I crashed several times today and lost a lot of work this time. Usually just 5 minutes or so of work. Today, there was no warning, it just shut off. PBRT was working when it happened.
  21. Right on Chopsaw! I'm definitely interested. I found another article on this and it was not in depth but they got it to work somehow. It went on saying how they liked the new method in X12.
  22. How do you guys handle the valley boards laying flat instead of chief treating it like a new build roof on home additions? Polyline solids? Attached is mine and then a pic of the "real world" type of construction. Grey lines are existing and blue is new construction. Just trying to show it exact. I'll be honest I have always left it as shown because they get the idea but I really need to improve this from now on.
  23. Sounds like a polyline solid kind of job. I did that type of wall on a raised beach home to help break wind gusts underneath.
