  1. Hello Folks...long time no talk.  Been BUUUUUUSY around here!  We've done close to 250 plans already this year...

Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone knows about this trainer coming up in Coeur d'Alene (Aug 31 - Sep 1)?...

I'm curious if it's going to be a meeting of the minds (Scott, Joe, Glenn, etc...) and hammer out some great issues, or is it just going to be like how the UGM was?

I'd like to go, but I don't want to spend the time and money if we're going to be talking about how to add colors to the color palette.

Any help from users or CA would be great...

    Also...who plans to attend?

  2. On a side note, if you have a polyline solid with an arc in it, you can select the arc, open the solid go to "Selected Arc", and deselect "Automatic Facet Angle" and select whatever angle you wish to make the arc appear smooth.

    See Attached...

  3. Just wondering if anyone is having any luck getting ahold of Chief today?...

Have a question for Tech Support and no dice...

I tried about every number I found on their website and my Digital Locker.  They all say that Chief is unavailable.

  4. I'm curious if anyone else has noticed the first line offset goes from the center of the wall rather than from the outside of the main layer?...

Or is there something I'm missing here?

Is there any way to change it?...I want my first line 24" from the outside of the main layer, and then every line after that 12".  The number I'm showing (see attachment) works for a 2x6 wall with 7/16OSB on the outside, but is off on the concrete foundation.

  5. John_B,

Personally I like the roof over the house of Craig's better...you don't end up with the goofy looking 2' ridge.

I do agree with you though on the roof over the garage, though.

Back on topic though, the 3 biggest things I've found with quality renderings is:

    1. High quality model.
    2. Great lighting.
    3. Accurate materials/textures.

Any high end render you look at has those three basic things.  Yeah there are other things that go into it too, but if you start with those you'll turn out some nice looking pictures.

  6. Since most rendering softwares utilize CPU only...the faster/more cores the better.

Also something to consider is that the architecture of the CPU has changed in 4 1/2 years.  So a 3.4 GHz i7 now will be faster than your 4 1/2 year old 3.4 GHz i7.

  7. I use Thea, and I don't know if I would say it help sell more, but they definitely notice a difference.

I did a few renders for a contractor of ours, and shortly after I was approached by another one asking why we don't do those really high quality pictures for them too!

So...needless to say it gets noticed.
