  1. Hi! I see you helped someone with a roof on a porch and I appreciated your video but it didn't quite answer my question. I was wondering if you could help me with this. Struggling making the shed roof over the porch & the pop up dormer through the roof that lets light in. Thank you!! Bailey@longacreconstruction.com

Bailey - Yes I can show you how to do this. Can you send me your plan file. You may need to zip the file.

      Send it to steve@mychiefskills.com

  2. I'm designing a screen porch from Chief Architect x9. Where did you import your screen and how do you import it into the software?

I'm trying to make a screen door like you did? It appears that you skipped a few steps because you are more advanced. Did you open a new file to created the door from CAD? Can you give me step by step instructions on how you created the screen door for the screen porch?

I did a quick video...posted on your last post on Chief Talk.  Let me know if my answer is what you are looking for.  If not...you'll have to provide a bit more detail...

Not ignoring you...just been giving some thought to how best to accomplish the task you are asking about.  I've never gone to the trouble of laying out individual tiles made from p-solids.  I'm not a tile installer and since there are thousands of tiles and pieces...it always seems like a waste of time to me.  I gather if you are into design/build...and maybe bath and/or kitchen remodeling that this type of planning could be helpful.

One thing you need to realize is that if you use a p-solid as a "tile"...you will have to paint it with a texture.  If you want it to represent an exact tile from a specific manufacturer...you will have to search the web and find a picture of that tile that you can use.  You may be able to download the image...or, you may have to use a screen capture tool to get the image you want.

Maybe you can be more specific as to what you are trying to accomplish. Are you trying to design shower walls with specific tile layouts...using a custom tile that is not included in any of Chief's catalogs?

Not sure I can be of much help.  I have seen similar posts in the past...and the guys have suggested using P-Solids and multiple-copy.

If you are doing floor tile...you can use a floor material region for the grout.  Make the region just slightly less in thickness than the floor tile.  Same process if you are doing wall tile...except use the wall material region for the grout.  Then used P-Solids for your tiles...and paint them with a material (picture) you get from the internet...or something from the library.

Let me know my suggestions help or not...

If they don't, then I will give this some thought and if I can figure out how to do it myself...then I will create a video to show you the possible steps.

  6. Sorry to bother you, any chance you can review my project...

It is design to reduce the cost, by keeping foundation smaller and lesser roof, with common trusses.

Weber concrete owns the foundation business in Indy,  Metal roof install $$$.

Location is 400x800 in field lot.

Just looking for 3rd party opinion.

Quick question...why is the LOFT a sunken room?  Doesn't seem to be because of grade...

Just wondering...this does makes things complicated (more expensive)

Also...why don't we get off this "chat" area of Chief.  My email is snestor55@gmail.com

      Thanks,

      Steve

What do. you want me to comment on?  Your Chief plans...or the design.  Generally...I really like the design.  There are a few design elements that I would not want...but, most of the things I see really are personal preference.

There are a number of issues with the the drawing...like the front porch columns not reaching the beam above them...but, overall it's a really nice job.

Tell me specifically what you want me to comment on and I'll be happy to do the best I can....trust me, I'm not expert.

Also...I have used both Weber and Custom Concrete in the past.  Both are excellent.  Custom is probably more expensive and I believe over the years they have become the company of choice for the large corporate builder...not the small guys.
