Once you draw a wall...it will not change by just changing the default. (roofs are the same) If you change the default...you will have to redraw the wall.

@DH7777 - I looked at your plan...just wondering why you have you are using CAD for so many things? Such as the front porch post? Is the plan X15...or are you still using X11 which is what is showing in your "signature".

@ACVNarch I'm sorry...I searched all my Loom Folders and could not locate this video. It's old...and for some reason I must have deleted it.

I'm guessing...but, I think the issue with the "roof return" at the porch is that the return has to extend over the top of another roof. This might be what is causing this auto tool not to work properly. The auto roof needs a wall to attach to...and the railing wall which the roof return is assigned to stops at the garage...but the roof needs to continue past the garage wall.

@mthd97 - If you ever manually adjust a wall top or bottom...for whatever reason, the wall disconnects from the default height or bottom...or sometimes both depending on you it was manually edited. If you open the wall dialogue and go to the structure tab and you see the box for "Default Wall Top Height"...or bottom is not unchecked and no longer grayed out...this wall will no longer move at all no matter what you do to a room or floor height change. The bottom line is that rooms defined wall heights and the "best practice" is to not manually move your walls up/down.

If you are unable to open a room…then some or all of the walls that enclose the space are set as “no room definition”. All the walls must have room definition. You will have to open each wall and uncheck “no room definition”.

You should post your plan... Close the plan and then upload to the site. Depending on the size you may have to zip the file first.

Is this what you are trying to accomplish? I did this by changing the "roof group" of your porch room to roof group (1). I opened the short walls of the deck and on the roof tab changed the pitch to 4/12. I then rebuilt the roof. By placing the porch on roof group two it treats this area as a separate roof area...and will not attempt to combine it with the main roof. The result isn't something I'd like...but I'm not sure I'm even doing what you want.

Just a guess…but all rooms where you are going to want attic trusses need knee walls and a ceiling. It doesn’t appear you do. You have to have a “room” before you can get attic trusses

@JKEdmo Jim - you could also design that overhang as I've shown in the attached screen clip. Also...open defaults and make a change to the "3D View Defaults". Have the "sun follows camera" box checked. This will make it so you always have sun on the face of the building you are looking at. Makes life with Chief much better...

If you are trying to build attic trusses for the attic in your plan...then, you will have to build a new 3rd floor. In order to have attic trusses you need a floor and ceiling...and knee walls (or full height) with an attic room on the outside of each wall. I've attached instructions from the Chief X15 manual...and a screen clip of the truss I built in your plan. The width of the webs may be too small...but you can open the truss and change all the webs to the width you want.

Eric - adding a 2nd floor of course works. But - you have to account for the floor thickness. If you don't...and you spec 24"...what you will get is the floor thickness plus the 24". For my simple example...transform/replicate to lift the roof was/is very fast...and accurate.

Specifically what "adjustments" are causing you difficulty? Just a note; my template plan that I started with in the video already had a 2nd floor. If you don't have a 2nd floor...you should build a blank 2nd floor before you start. This isn't absolutely necessary...but, if you are trying to follow along in the video and do exactly what I do in the video...then you should have a 2nd floor in your plan before you start.

The balcony is a "room". If you click in the balcony...then, open it using the door icon on the bottom edit toolbar...in this dialogue, open the structure tab. This is where you can set the elevation for the room. You could also go to "EDIT>RESET TO DEFAULT...select "all floors"....and select "floor heights". You may need to select "ceiling heights" also. This will reset your rooms to the "default" heights...which are specified in "DEFAULTS" (the wrench icon on the top toolbar)...then go to "FLOORS AND ROOMS>FLOOR LEVELS. This is where your default floor/ceiling heights are stored.
