  1. " I think, would be much easier if CA would just give us an option to recess the casing on either/or or both sides of a wall.--------------Any thoughts? "

Hey Larry, did you post this in the suggestions Thread? I can see where this would be a use full tool .

  2. David, I've never tried this (you may have already), and you may not be able to select edit area? If you can drag a marquee around the blocks you want to explode and see if it gives you the option to explode them? Just a random thought.

Is anyone using MS Surface machine with x12 ? Do you get good speed and graphics rendering?

    Thanks,

    Chad

I am using Surface Pro 4-i7. Have been for several years.  Haven't done anything in X12 yet, but have opened a couple of plans haven't seen much difference in speed on my SP yet.  A lot is going to depend on the complexity of the plan and other nuances that take place, as you develop a plan.  3D views have been a bit slow at times (X11) but again it was as much related to the complexity I believe vs the age of my SP. This isn't much help, if you're thinking of going to a Surface Pro, I'm sure the newer ones will do the job.

The Yarbro residence is under construction. The client's MECH engineer asked for the DWG files. I think I did it correctly, I guess I will find out tomorrow if he has any issues with it.  I would normally turn most layers off, however he wanted most layers relative to the architectural (Dims, Cabinets, Walls of course, Doors etc.) left on.  No question exactly, since it is a two story, I exported all floors, Export only displayed layers, Scaling unit: in>Create Associative Dimensions>Export Filled Areas. That sound about right?

Thought I would post some pics of the project under way.  Love to see a design come to life!!! Had a lot of help working through the challenges. Glenn Woodward has a lot of patience.  Eric the solver....straight to the point,  I'd better stop naming all I'll miss someone and hurt feelings. Lot of you assisted in one way or another.  Some of you got impatient with me, but that's understandable!

    Hello:

I've recently started working for a custom home builder here in Texas - the DFW area.  Our company currently works with one central architect for the majority for their designs and plans, but this architect only uses AutoCAD, not Chief Architect.  Since we want to become better at plug and play with BuilderTrend, I've begun the search for "other" architects in my area that DO USE Chief Architect exclusively.  I'd gladly accept info for anyone in the DFW area.  Just trying to streamline the process and eliminate the need for all these AutoCAD conversions that seem to always lose some of the info in translation.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I figured how to make the floor platform frame very close to what I wanted

Hey Larry, I know you don't want to do a lot of explaining, but (when you get time)  it would be great if you could tell us a little of what you did (work-around, etc) ? Probably asking too much huh?

  8. It would certainly be very helpful if you would update your signature to provide the software version you're currently using, and a little computer info (especially if you might become a regular poster on the forum.  Here's a link that will help you.

Check these helps out if you haven't already. www.chiefarchitect.com/support/category/59/materials

  9. It's not difficult to update your signature if you'll just take few minutes.

And be sure to include some computer hardware info.  It's time saving for those who stop what they're doing to help us, to know this info.

  10. First of all, your post makes no sense to me?  What links don't work, data doesn't work?  A real tutorial?   To do what? Input topo maps? Why is it so hard to do a simple thing, now you're talking?   But of course I'm not sure what simple things you are referring too? Sorry, not being sarcastic, just sharing what I'm sure the others on the forum are asking them selves. Also, It would help if you would use the link below and follow the instructions to update your signature to include the Soft Ware Version you're using, and some computer info as this often helps the others (smarter and more proficient than I) to help you.

    Otherwise, welcome to the forum!

David - sorry, just abbreviating.  I'm using Chief Architect 11 and was referring to Chief Architect Designer

Lauren, explain technical difficulties, even better post the CA X11 plan file so the forum can "see" what's going on. As far as the wall colors not being the same, when you opened the plan in X11, did you save the designer plan, then open it with X11?  You may need to open the wall type in X11 and reset the wall fill colors?

    Hello all,

I am trying to see if anybody here has had experience with 3D scanners to help with the import of as builts into chief. We do a lot of condo remodels and I spend a lot of time gathering measurements and taking pictures so I can generate the chief file.

https://canvas.io/ looks interesting but you have to pay to import to cad. It could get expensive for multiple room scans.

Has anyone played with this or have any recommendations for a similar product, one that is not super expensive either? Or is the tech not there yet?

    thanks

Welcome to the forum. It would be helpful if you'd update your signature and include what Version of Chief you're currently using. Assuming you are using CA software.  You can open your profile go to account settings click on that and another menu will open with Signature select that and update.  If you plan on using the forum for help be sure to include your computer info too as that will also help the responders.

Did you search the forum for 3D Scanners etc.?   Here is a link to a similar post see if there is anything there to help?

Yes, I see the upgrade when I hit that button.

My SSA automatically renews Feb 2020, for another full year; there is no upgrade button for me to hit in my Digital locker?:o

That's really ok for me though, I hate the thought of having to migrate all my libraries over.  I'm the only one on the forum I know that has so much trouble doing the migrate :(

I am paid up thru Jan.14,2021, I think that passes muster.

I understand, so that means your current license was about to expire? You renewed roughly a week before the release? I'm not sales etc., so if it doesn't show up and you think your due the Beta to use give customer service a call?

  15. First welcome to the forum.  It would be very helpful, if you update your signature with the CA software version you are using, as variations from one vs to the other may affect the answer.  Here is a link to how to: https//chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/18908-signature-here-at-chief-talk

Also include computer info would be helpful for those who might respond.

If you have a PDF file of a plan, then you open a new plan, >import>pdf and then you can trace over.  I know there are programs that can convert PDF to .DWG or .DWF files, but if you don't or can't, then the trace over is the way to go.

    https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00018/tracing-over-an-imported-file-to-create-a-3d-floorplan.html

Chop is suggesting if you can get the original file of the plan that was drawn using CA, then ask for the complete back up.  If you're new, to CA you may not understand so go to the help files and search for saving files importing / exporting files etc.
