Odd . when I select library the drop down menu to allow selection of core, manufacturer, user catalogs no longer comes up. Instead  a tool menu appears. Worked fine last night so I'm not sure what I may have done.

Would appreciate some help.

Ok thanks for responding. Guess I'll have to take the day to sit on the porch with a beer and stare at the surf!

I received a cad dwg file by email and when trying to import it  an error notice came up  "Teigha error: Teigha Error: 42 invalid file version.

When trying again to import from mail I see that the file now has the CA logo but again the same error message when I attempted import.

I was able to import the same file earlier from a flash-drive on another computer using X10.

I don't have access to that computer at the moment so hoping someone can help me resolve this.

I made a simple polyline solid as a concrete landing outside a restroom with the restroom floor the same elevation. When I put in a railing it was 6"

above floor level.

Can't seem to find a way to adjust the elevation of the railing.. This must be simple but.......

Hope someone is willing to help the feeble minded.

Thanks chopsaw for responding. Alaska son invited me to call him and he helped me solve one of the biggest issues so that was a huge help. But as you can see  I'm having a problem still converting an elevation to CAD. I attached a couple photos to show what's happening.

Michael mentioned that I may have an object distant in the backgroung somewhere but I haven't found anything.

Michael thanks for the help . The graphics card set up helped . It seems the computer is not freezing up so far and

I was now able to get the CAD to layout but here's what happened when I converted to CAD from drawing. I've attached a couple phone shots here.

When I convert from elevation shot to CAD I get window " calculating panel lines" and it takes a couple minutes to create the CAD view in the 2nd photo.

A zillion lines that project into infinity.  Any Ideas ?

Ok this has cost me most of morning trying to figure out.

I took an exterior elevation view converted it to cad and changed some details.

When sent to layout it was huge. So huge I could not grab or find edit handles.

then I'd get the swirling death ball and after several minutes my screen would just freeze.

I could not get out of the program unless I shut down and ,of course ,lose my work I would

.attach a file or screen shot but my computer is still frozen

This happened 3 times and lucky me I have a spare computer so I can send this sos.

Help would be greatly appreciated

yeah I hadn't kept the original original file so just thought I'd try the PDF. I"ll remember to check the  DPI in the future. Thanks Graeme

I imported a PDF of a CA plan into a new plan and found there was a lot of missing lines and details.

Is this normal? Something I can do to improve the image?

Thank you. I did select it but was looking at the tool on the top tool bar. Now I see it appears on the bottom bar.

I want to make a detail drawing into a cad block and save it to my library.

The instructions in the manual are easy to follow but the last step, which is to select the add to library tool. This shows,in the manual, as a couple books with a + sign . My library tool only will allow me to open the browser and when it is open a check mark appears next  to row of books. Can't seem to get the + sign to come up. This has got to be simple but apparently so am I.  

help please .

I,m sure this has been addressed before but can't seem to find a reference.

I just sent a 1/4 scaled view to layout and it appears that the layout page is 11x17 or so rather than the 24X36 that has always been.

I went to tools then layout to edit but found no way to control size of layout sheet.

What am I missing ?

The break line tool you were looking for would only show up after your roof plane was selected...down in the edit toolbar at the bottom of your screen or in the toolbar that pops up when you right click. 

OK thanks I'll be aware of that now. I believe I tried that as I tried every thing I could think of but as you read through the other conversations ,it seems the main issue could be my computer. When I used the breakwall tool the other day the tool locked in and I could not select another tool. Sometimes the system crashes or just goes into the swirling sphere mode.

Anyway I appreciate your time and that of the others that helping me get through this.

Interesting, I've found Windows 10 to be the most stable and well-polished version of Windows I've ever used. Maybe it's your computer - what did you get?

 

 

[Ctrl-B] to break walls

[3] to break lines, [3, 3] to do a complete break

 

I mapped [4] to break lines completely, as well, ever since X8 changed the way it works.

You may be right. My computer froze yesterday. Couldn't access anything or even shut it down properly. Ended up just shutting it off and trying again this morning. It's working for the moment!!

It's  an Asus X550J   Win 10  64 bit   i7 4710HQ 2.50 GHz    8GB ram

can't remember the video  card but it's supposedly a gaming system with graphics that support 3 D  .

Hoping I can finish what I need today then take it for check.

If it worked on a wall then you had the wrong tool to do the break, there are 2 different tools one for wall break and the other for line break

Huh OK. Never knew that and wonder how it's worked for me in the past. 

Since I've always just clicked on the icon on my toolbar( and see only one break tool) how do I select between the two tools?

jeeze I'm getting simple minded!! 

The 3 key is activating the same break tool you have down in the edit bar. Is it possible you were just selecting the wrong tool?

I'm sure I had the right tool as I tried it on a wall as well to see if it worked at all. It did work for wall but not for roof plane.??????

I don't understand the problem but it is working OK now.
